Welcome to Year 1!

Our classroom is full of learning, fun, exciting challenges and new adventures. We work together, try our best and help each other along the way.

See below for important information about our class, what we will be learning and all the exciting things coming up this year.

  • Important Days

    PE Days: Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing school PE kit.

  • How can I help my child at home?

    To support your child with mental health and wellbeing activities, please visit our Pastoral Care webpage.

    To support your child with Phonics and Reading, we recommend visiting the For Parents section of the Little Wandle website.

    To support your child with Maths, we recommend vsiting White Rose Maths who offer free, downloadable workbooks for parents and children to explore together.

    To support your child with handwriting, we recommend utilising the information shared on our English webpage.

    We would appreciate your support in encouraging your child to build a routine whereby they complete their homework and return it to school. Homeworks books go home for completion on a Tuesday, and are due back in school on Monday morning for marking and feedback.

    If you have any concerns, please speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance.

  • Phonics & Reading

    We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to help our children learn to read. Phonics lessons occur daily.

    At school, children read in a group, three times a week. They focus on decoding words, prosody and comprehension. This book will be sent home at the end of the week, so that children can read to you with more confidence and fluency.
