Year 5 Class Page

Welcome to Year 5!

Curriculum Overview

Year 5’s half-termly curriculum overviews give parents information about what we will be learning, along with suggestions to help your child at home. Please do take a look:

A Typical Day

Our school day starts at 8.45am: once the school bell has been rung, children line up on the playground by the Year 5 classroom and are greeted by an adult working in their class.

During registration, children independently complete a short morning task, any editing challenges and/or read their books. In Year 5, our mornings generally focus on Reading, Writing and Maths, and our Wider Curriculum is planned for an afternoon.

There is a daily act of worship which takes place, usually in the mornings, and all pupils are invited to join in.

The school day finishes at 3.30pm with various after school clubs and wrap around care on offer.

Reading

Reading and reading for pleasure are really important in Year 5. Pupils are encouraged to read daily and are given lots of opportunities to be read to by an adult.

Throughout the year, we will read lots of different books together and this will help inspire our writing!

Homework and Spellings

Every Thursday, homework books go home for completion and are to be handed back in on a Monday morning. Every Monday morning, the weekly spellings that have gone home to be learnt will be tested on. Each half term, there will be a creative challenge to be completed. Entries for the creative challenge can be emailed in to: homework@killinghall.n-yorks.sch.uk

What do we get up to?

At Killinghall, our vision, "We strive, we share, we shine," is the centre of all that we do. In Year 5, opportunities are carefully planned to inspire pupils to do their best. Please take a look at some of the activities we have been up to this year:
