Safeguarding Statement

Killinghall CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All North Yorkshire schools, including Killinghall CE Primary School, follow the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board procedures. The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.

Anyone who has concerns about a child's welfare can make a referral to Children's Social Care. Referrals can come from the child themselves, practitioners such as teachers, early year's providers, the police, probation service, GPs and health visitors as well as family members and members of the public. If you have a concern please use the link below to find out more about procedures and the referral process.

The school’s child protection policy is available in the policies section of the web site. Mrs Sarah Bassitt is the Designated Lead for child protection. Mrs Elouise Foster is the Deputy Designated Lead.

Our safeguarding governor is Mrs Marion McCormick.

All staff and governors have full child protection and safeguarding  training. An s128 check is completed on all staff and governors and enhanced DBS checks are in place.

The Headteacher has 'Keeping Children Safe on Line', 'Recognising & Preventing FGM' and 'Child Sexual Exploitation' training. She also has 'Safer Recruitment' training along with the Assistant Head and one other teacher. Our Office Manager also has this training along with a Governor.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism. Staff and Governors have taken the appropriate training to fulfill their roles in this. This has been updated to include links to right wing groups.
We are aware of local issues relating to safeguarding. Child Criminal Exploitation is a high priority with 'County Lines' being a real problem in the Harrogate area. Absence rates in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region is a concern with 1 in 8 children having persistent absence in 17/18. We rigourously monitor absence and challenge unknown absences.
